Recipe of the Month

BahnMi_small.jpg
Bánh Mì Gà Nướng

Our Recipe of the Month is for Bánh Mì Gà Nướng. Some people believe that Bánh mì are the sandwiches to end all sandwiches. We agree! Combining fresh and pickled vegetables with grilled chicken, Bánh mì gà nướng sandwiches make a light, fresh-tasting and very satisfying lunch.

CD of the Month

As We Speak
Buy the Music (Paid Link)

Our International CD for the Month is As We Speak by Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain, Edgar Meyer, and Rakesh Chaurasia.

All of the musicians on this CD are renowned masters of their instruments. Led by the progressive banjo player Bela Fleck, the CD combines banjo, tabla, upright bass and the Indian flute called a bansuri. The instrumental compositions meld Western and Indian Classical motifs with jazz and bluegrass into a seamless organic whole. It is musical genre-bending at its best.

Book of the Month

The Half Known Life
Buy the Book (Paid Link)

Our Book of the Month selection is The Half Known Life: In Search of Paradise by acclaimed travel writer Pico Iyer. The book is a collection of essays which all touch on the ever so alluring idea of "finding paradise". Although some of the essays are focused on places that are often archetypically associated with serenity and calm such as Nepal and Japan, he challenges us to understand that his envisioning of "paradise" can and does exist in more tumultuous societies such as Iran, Kashmir and even in authoritarian North Korea.
